A stern-faced, pratical young Roegadyn, Gohtalona is a woman who seems uncomfortable with both herself and her place in the world. There is a hungry zeal for action about her, as though she fears what she'll find if she sits still and lets the dust of her mind settle.Gohtalona is analytical, yet often impatient, and easily provoked into a hurricane temper. Irascible, mistrustful, and certified No Fun™, on the surface she appears difficult to get along with, but the other side of this tempestuous coin is a gentle, protective, empathetic bleeding heart that can always be relied upon when needed.

Character Hooks

The Northern Empty
Born a citizen of Sharlayan and member of a pirate crew for nearly a decade, Gohtalona is more connected to the Northern Empty than any other part of the world. Lots of potential for connections to her family or old friends back in Sharlayan, contacts she met in Aerslaent, or other miscreants who sailed the Bloodbrine Sea!
The Yellowjackets
After she was shipwrecked in Vylbrand, Gohtalona was rescued by a squad of Yellowjackets and soon after decided to enlist. Perhaps your character knew her when she lived and worked in Limsa Lominsa, was amongst her rescuers, is an old colleague wondering why she up and quit after years of excellent service, or maybe even someone she once arrested who’s got an axe to grind.
Hired Help
While Gohtalona has steady work, she is always looking for more. She is available for hire as a bodyguard and has many contacts as a smuggler to move items discretely throughout Eorzea.
The Golden Goddess Gemworks
Gohtalona works as a security guard at a goldsmith's shop in a shadier section of Ul’dah. While on the surface the store seems normal enough, in reality the shop secretly deals exclusively in cursed, often very dangerous jewelry. Some hooks here might be a thief looking to steal from the Gemworks, an individual seeking a job, or even an upset customer who has suffered due to a cursed piece sold to them at the shop.

Background

Born to a family of scholars and historians in Old Sharlayan, Gohtalona abandoned her home at the age of sixteen to board a merchant ship bound for the islands of Aerslaent. There, she fell in with a crew of smugglers and thieves setting sail for the Bloodbrine Sea. She took to this new life with savage enthusiasm, displaying an impressive talent for brawling and a strong stomach when it came to the bloodier aspects of her new trade. After nearly a decade, Gohtalona's life at sea was suddenly cut short when the crew ventured too far south and had a fatal run-in with the Maelstrom. After the shipwreck, Gohtalona was found washed up in La Noscea by a contingent of Yellowjackets. With her memory in pieces and nothing to her name, she opted to enlist in their ranks.Years later, the reappearance of an old crewmate sparks some scattered memories of her criminal past. Conflicted and confused, she resigns from the Yellowjackets and leaves Vylbrand. Present day, Gohtalona works security at a jewelry store in Ul'dah and puts her old skills as a smuggler to work in Vesper Bay.

OOC Stuff

Nice to meet you! I go by Toadstool and use she/her pronouns. I'm a thirty-something who likes writing, reading, baking, hiking, kayaking, and gardening! My character is on Balmung server, but I'm happy to travel, and I'm in EST (GMT-5) timezone. Please feel free to say hello in-game if I'm online, or you can add me on Discord at cuties.exeSome general info on my roleplaying preferences below!
- Realistically powered, mostly lore-abiding characters.
- Character and writer both 21+
- Healthy separation of IC and OOC interactions.
- An interest in writing a compelling story; it's fine if you don't do multi-paragraph writing, but try to give me enough to respond to and keep the scene rolling! I'll always do my best to make my own writing engaging and immersive.
- Up-front communication on your interests and character goals.
- Both of us engaging in plot ideas and storytelling collaboration--I don't mind doing some heavy lifting, but it's more fun if we work together to make a scene or story interesting and engaging to play out!
